SMW is the students association of materials science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich. We represent the students in their department of materials (D-MATL) and offer a balance to their studies on various occasions. This also promotes a lively exchange between the students. The board of the SMW is newly elected in February/March and October by the General Assembly (GV) and is composed of students from the first year up to Master’s students.
Through the semester representative representatives you can raise your concerns about your studies and for all questions and remarks outside of your studies you may contact the board members at any time.
Purpose of SMW
The association “Students of Materials Science” is a students association of the VSETH. In accordance with the statutes of 13 October 2010, the SMW aims:
– Preservation of the interests of students at the D-MATL towards the ETH and the VSETH itself
– The promotion of communication among all members of the SMW
– Participation in education and science policy discussions in the broadest sense
– All actions which are suitable to promote the ideal and material welfare of the members during and after their studies
History of SMW
The association was founded on 28 June 1982 under the name “Verein der Werkstoffingenieure an der Eidgenössischen Technischen Hochschule Zürich”. With the renaming of the course in 2003, a new name was given to the student association. Since then, we have grown to over 200 members (as of 2017).
